Fiction
I am sure everyone has head of The Da Vinci Code by now. I am also sure you have heard people talking bad about it. Kind of how some people are about Harry Potter. I don’t get what the big deal is. They are both works of FICTION. I quote M-W: 1 a : something invented by the imagination or feigned; specifically : an invented story.
Did you see that? Fiction is something that is made up. It is an invented story. So what I want to know is why people get so upset about fiction. I could see the problem if it was not clear that something was fiction, but most of the time this stuff is clearly marked. Maybe I am missing something, if I am someone please tell me what it is.
the problem the religious right has with this movie is that people are taking it to be the real truth. they believe that jesus and mary m. had a relationship and a child. plus it also says that there is some sort of conspiracy through the ages to leave out books of the bible. i could go further to disprove this but all i wanted to do was answer your question. hope that helps…
Fiction or not, it’s still sacrilege.
Since we’re quoting definitions,
sacrilege
2 : gross irreverence toward a hallowed person, place, or thing
Good points. See this is why I ask. You people think of stuff I don’t.
Though it may be sacrilege, it still stirs some questions. Obviously the Bible does not contain the entire life of Jesus. There’s a pretty big gap in there of his teenage years. What did he do in that time? I wonder if he was ever attracted to a girl? Can you be attracted to a girl without it being considered lust?
even though Jesus’ entire life is not documented in the Bible it doesn’t matter. we have to remember that the reason Jesus could die on the cross to take away our sins was the fact that He had no sin. i can’t think he was ever “attracted” to a girl except that He loved everyone equallly. we are thinking of His life from a human perspective when in fact He was only human to the point that He had a human body. not thoughts or otherwise.
Well, you seriously degrade the amazing miracle of Jesus’s life if you say he was only human in body. Part of what makes our salvation so incredible is that Jesus was able to live a perfect life and resist temptations. His pure life was then sacrificed because the only payment for sin must be death. There’s nothing special about Jesus just having a human body. We as humans are even made in the image of God. But for God to become man and look and act like us and STILL go through life without sinning….that’s a miracle.
i wasn’t downplaying jesus’ life. he WAS only human in body form. if he were truly human he couldn’t have not sinned…it is impossible. yes we are made in the IMAGE of God but we are below Him because we are not Him. it seems we are both kinda saying the same thing here.
I’m going to have to disagree on that. I don’t think he was only “human in body form”. What is the point of that? I think he was not only physically but also emotionally and mentally very human as well. Why else would he have struggled so much with his own death in the garden that night? God could have EASILY just said ok and done it with no second thought about it. Jesus however was conflicted by his human side which was logically telling him that death is painful and not something we want to experience voluntarily.
He was conflicted because He was taking on the burden of our sins. I’m not disagreeing that pain may have been an issue but He obviously was conflicted about taking on the sins of humanity when He had no sin.
To answer the first question, the problem is people are stupid, pure and simple.
There will be people out there that go to see this Sci Fi movie, and take it as fact. Just like there are crazy people who practice Scientology even though it also was created by a Sci Fi author and written as Sci Fi. Even though that’s true, I do believe their are tiny robots that are taking over Tom Cruise’s mind. haha What a bunch of losers.
